PREGNANCY MASSAGE

Orca Performance is all about getting you feeling and functioning at your best, and that applies during pregnancy too! Although pregnancy can be a wonderful and exciting time, it does place a lot of stress on the body and we are here to help with that to allow you to take better care of yourself and your future little one.

Pregnancy massage (a.k.a. prenatal massage) has a number of benefits such as:

- Reducing aches and pains, including back and sciatic pain.

- Increase circulation and help reduce swelling.

- Reduce stress and promote relaxation, helping both mum and baby.

- Promotes serotonin and dopamine release, helping you sleep better.

- A chance to discuss any physical concerns you may have and seek advice on how to manage any issues that may be arising at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will getting a massage harm my baby?

Getting a massage from a qualified therapist will not cause you or your baby any harm. There are certain points of the body that need to be avoided and by seeing a therapist with an FHT accredited pregnancy massage certification, you can be sure that these will not be touched.

Will I be lying on my front?

No, all pregnancy massages take place in a side lying position. You will have your head, bump, and legs supported by pillows too, to ensure you are comfortable and well supported.

At what point of my pregnancy can I get a massage?

You can safely receive a massage at any point during your pregnancy, although the abdomen and lower back areas will be avoided during the first trimester.

Will it hurt?

Pregnancy massage should not cause any pain, and is actually a very relaxing experience! The pressure of the massage is dictated by the person receiving it, and can be as firm or soft as you like.

Does a pregnancy massage have to include the abdominal area?

Though a pregnancy massage after the first trimester will usually include the abdomen, this is completely the client's choice.

What if I need to use the bathroom during the massage?

You are welcome to take a little pause or bathroom break any time you like!
